In Buller, Civil Defence urged residents in coastal areas to evacuate last night, due to the heavy rain, wind and high sea swells that were forecast.
But the weather has eased overnight, and there are no Civil Defence emergency currently warnings in place.
Buller Mayor Jamie Cleine said only a handful of people had opted to leave their homes for the night.
