While the rest of us cower inside away from the rain and wind of New Zealand winter, actor and musician Madeleine Sami is lapping up the Californian sunshine in Los Angeles.

This beautiful little record shop has become a favourite of Madeleine's - a far more relaxed place to dig than the more famous Amoeba Music down the road.

A local food spot specialising in organic and locally grown produce with a salad which Melody still dreams about weeks after departing from the U.S. (the 'Cheebo Chop'). A great place to refuel before attempting to mount the giant hill that climbs toward the Hollywood sign.

Sunset Sound recording studio is a Hollywood institution that's seen legends like Led Zeppelin,The Doors, Neil Young, The Beach Boys and Prince through it's doors. Unfortunately on this tour Madeleine and Melody didn't get that far.

Hiking in sweltering heat for an hour and a half through shadeless desert without a water bottle? What a good idea! Despite the odds being fairly well stacked against enjoyment, this was a great hike - and the view from the top was sensational.
