Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Gallery at Pukenamu Queen's Park in the centre of Whanganui is one of New Zealand's oldest purpose-built galleries.
It first opened in 1919 and houses a nationally significant collection. The historic home has been closed for the past decade due to an extensive $70 million redevelopment, but is reopening to the public this morning.
The gallery contains more than 9000 items, made up of approximately 8000 artworks and many archival materials. Co-host of RNZ's Culture 101 Mark Amery tells Susie what's been happening at the dawn ceremony.
