Former mayor and activist Sir Tim Shadbolt died yesterday aged 78. A colourful man, with a big voice and even bigger smile has been a huge figure in local body politics for decades.

The central North Island regional surf life saving championships are currently taking place on the Kapiti Coast, hosted by the Paekākāriki Surf Lifesaving club.
Matt Warren has been a volunteer with the Paekākāriki club for over 40 years, The club house has undergone a major rebuild, in large part due to coastal erosion. Matt joins Anna to discuss the championships.

11:10 Museum Stop: Edwin Fox Maritime Museum
Today we're sailing into some maritime history with a stop at the Edwin Fox Museum in Picton.
The Edwin Fox is one of the world's oldest surviving merchant sailing ships. The 19th century wooden vessel carried migrants to New Zealand, troops to the Crimean War and is the only surviving ship which transported convicts to Australia. Today, it resides in Picton.
Manager of the Edwin Fox Museum, Karen McLeod, joins Anna to delve into the history.

11:20 Folk singer Tom Cunliffe performs live
Tom Cunliffe is a London-born Zealand-based folk artist. He's just released his fourth and latest album, Spit Out Your Gum.
Recorded at Auckland's Roundhead Studios, the album consists of nine tracks and features the talents of Dave Khan of Marlon Williams' band and Cass Basil of Tiny Ruins. Later this month he'll perform at the Auckland Folk Festival.
Today he joins Anna in-studio to perform three songs live.
