The Earthquake Commission has made a second interim payment to the Christchurch City Council for damage to its social housing stock.
The $15 million payment follows an initial payout of $21.4 million in April 2011.
About 97 percent of the council's social housing units were damaged in the earthquakes and need repairs or replacement.
Council Housing Committee chair Glenn Livingstone said the payout was $5 million more than the council expected and would help maintain the repair programme pending a full payout.
So far, 311 units have been repaired and 12 new units built.
Mr Livingstone said this second payment will be used to repair or replace another 280 units before the end of the year.
The council would continue negotiating for the remaining repair and rebuild claims for its social housing, he said.
