Nearly 50 firefighters have tackled a fire burning through a three-storey apartment block in West Auckland.

Fire and Emergency was called to the blaze on Stephen Avenue, Henderson at about 8.30pm on Friday.

All residents had been evacuated and crews had worked to try and stop the blaze from spreading to surrounding properties, FENZ said.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Ten fire trucks and two ladder trucks attended the blaze.

An RNZ reporter at the scene said the flames appeared to have been extinguished by about 10.30pm, and firefighters were putting out hotspots.

About a dozen evacuated residents could be seen standing by the roadside

One man said he had been visiting family in the house next to the one that caught fire.

He said everyone went outside after someone pointed out the smoke, and he saw three adults evacuating from the house on fire.
