Police investigating an arson attack in Whangārei last month are appealing for public help.
They want to hear from anyone who saw someone wearing dark clothing and a balaclava acting suspiciously in the early hours of 23 September outside the house on Raumanga Valley Road, the day before the fire.
Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer said a couch on the front porch was set alight just after 6am the following morning.
He said all five people in the house escaped the blaze, but it could have ended in tragedy.
