The Black Caps have won against the West Indies at McLean Park in Napier for their second ODI.
The match was in the balance for the majority of the chase, but New Zealand held their nerve at the death to seal the five-wicket win.
In-form Henry Nicholls has been recalled for the two remaining matches for the series, after Daryl Mitchell was ruled out.
The West Indies will search for a consolation win at the third ODI on Saturday at Seddon Park in Hamilton.
