The Situation
A ridge of high pressure affects the country today but a moist northerly flow strengthens over the nation on Sunday as a low approaches from the Tasman Sea.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland
Fine today, becoming cloudy with showers tomorrow.
In the west from Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula to Taranaki and to Wellington
Areas of cloud, breaking this afternoon.
Bay of Plenty, Taupo, Taihape, Gisborne and Hawke's Bay
Partly cloudy. Isolated showers this afternoon and evening, some possibly heavy. Further isolated showers in Bay of Plenty and Hawke's Bay tomorrow, mainly fine elsewhere.
Wairarapa, Nelson, and Marlborough
Mostly cloudy with a few showers, but fine breaks this afternoon. Rain developing about Nelson tomorrow.
Buller, Grey and Westland
Partly cloudy, with isolated showers mainly about Buller today. Rain developing tomorrow, becoming heavy in Westland and Grey.
Canterbury
Cloudy with occasional drizzle this morning, then fine breaks this afternoon. Periods of rain developing tomorrow.
Otago, Southland and Fiordland
Partly cloudy. Isolated showers tomorrow morning.
Chatham Islands
Cloudy with occasional drizzle and fog, becoming fine by tomorrow afternoon.

Sunday
North Island: Rain, heavy at times, easing to showers in the north later in the day. South Island: Periods of rain, possibly heavy in Westland and Canterbury.
Monday
North Island: A few showers in the north, clearing. Periods of rain in the south, possibly heavy for a time. South Island: Early rain from Canterbury to Marlborough, easing to a few showers. A few showers farther south, clearing later. Mainly fine in the west.
Tuesday
North Island: Fine, apart from a few early showers along the east coast. South Island: Mainly fine, but rain developing late in the south.
And at the Chathams
Mainly fine on Sunday. Rain developing on Monday, possibly heavy for a time, persisting through Tuesday. Northeasterlies, becoming strong on Monday and rising to gale northerly by Tuesday.
