Nauruans will head to the polls on 11 October after the 24th Parliament was dissolved on Friday.
Speaker of Parliament Marcus Stephen issued a notice of a general election on Saturday.
Candidate nominations are now open and will close on 1 October.
The previous Nauru parliamentry elections were held in September 2022.
The Nauru parliament is made up of 19 members in multi-seat constituencies - 14 administrative districts grouped into eight constituencies - and the parliamentary term is three years.
Voting is compulsory for all Nauruan citizens aged 20 years and over.
Last September, Nauru's lawmakers changed the country's electoral law, requiring candidates to declare their intention to run a full 12 months before parliament is dissolved. Failure to declare can result in significant fines and/or jail terms.
Nauru uses the preferential voting system;that is, voters rank candidates in order of preference.
Parliament elects the country's president.

David Adeang, 55, is the current president. He represents the Yaren Constituency and was elected on 30 October 2022.
He is Nauru's 17th president and was the longest-serving MP in the last parliament. He was first elected in 2001 and has served as Speaker twice and held several Cabinet portfolios.
Nauru switched diplomatic relations from Taiwan to China in early January 2024, with the government at the time saying the decision was made in the best interest of its people.
Australia is Nauru's largest economic, security and development partner.
In December 2024, the two countries signed the Nauru-Australia Treaty - a provide direct budget support deal worth over AU$100 million over five years.
